Spirit of the Earth 2015

Kim has produced another collaborative collection of thought provoking images, many have beautiful poems that are linked or connected. These have been created by her esteemed associate and contemporary poet, Steve Thorp presented under the title “The Spirit of the Earth”.

This is a follow up their previous exhibition, “Where are we Going” which was well received during 2012-13 and develops on the theme of Man’s inherent connection with Gaia. Kim has decided to highlight the precious gifts this stunning blue planet has to offer us, with many of the images incorporating nature – at it’s rawest, and wonderful geological slices emphasizing it’s power and beauty.

Many people ask why do these two artists (one working in images and one in words) again come to this evocative subject and take it further on its journey.

Kim says :

“The message is simple :

We are all connected by our life force to the Spirit of Gaia and innately know our DNA and that small light deep in our inner souls are inextricably linked to each other and to the ever present energy of the “Spirit of the Earth”.

Artist /Printmaker – Kim Major-George

is known for her spiritually themed images, reflecting her own personal journey and her interest in poetry, philosophy early spiritual iconography, Ancient civilizations, and mythology. She likes to work with poetry and finds the marriage between images and words often forms the starting point for her work.

Steve and Kim work hundreds of miles apart but uncannily, often work along very much the same lines, coming together as the themes and creative thoughts begin to resonate and, if they both feel it is right, work on taking it forward.

Poet /Therapist/ Activist – Steve Thorp

is an integral counsellor, activist and writer who has been working and writing in the fields of human wellbeing and education for over 30 years. Inspired by his many clients, the ideas and words of James Hillman, the Dark Mountain Project and others, he writes and teaches about Soul Making – a suitably, indeterminate force of human imagination and identity for an uncertain world. He recently published a new book entitled ‘Soul Manifestos and Pieces of Joy’ through Raw Mixture Publishing – www.rawmixture.co.uk. ‘Where are we Going ?’

UK Tour 2012 – 2013

Exhibition by Kim Major-George & Steve Thorp

A thought provoking exhibition of stunning hand pulled prints by Kim Major-George and framed poetry by contemporary poet Steve Thorp linked together for this UK tour.

This exhibition highlighted the Global Shift talked about by today’s modern prophets and for thousands of years by the Ancient Elders and indigenous groups.

Kim and Steve both feel passionate about the need to replace the unsustainable models that are currently in use and redirect our advanced technology to create a cohesive civilization that works with Gaia and to leave a world of plenty for our children.

This working partnership came about after a successful collaboration these two artists in 2009 on a touring exhibition entitled ‘The Wisdom of Peace’, an exhibition that was greatly admired and went to four different venues up and down the country.

The exhibition collaboration in 2012 – 2013 covered some venues in England and then to Wales in December 2012.

About the Artists

Artist /Printmaker – Kim Major-George

is known for her spiritually themed images, reflecting her own personal journey and her interest in poetry, philosophy early spiritual iconography, Ancient civilizations, and mythology. She likes to work with poetry and finds the marriage between images and words often forms the starting point for her work.

Steve and Kim work hundreds of miles apart but uncannily, often work along very much the same lines, coming together as the themes and creative thoughts begin to resonate and, if they both feel it is right, work on taking it forward. This felt right and an exhibition, tour and new book was the results.

Words from Kim …”I come from a spiritual but pragmatic view of the global shift that is taking place throughout 2012 and beyond and the constant themes of finding new ways to fulfil man spiritual and material needs dominate my new work. I find the ancient visionaries, from the Hopi Elders saying ‘We are the ones we have been waiting for’ to the modern visionary view of ’Break down or break through’ says it all. I believe the need to come together collectively to evolve and rethink this modern, all consuming world, is a priority before we are made to change by events outside our control” .

Poet /Therapist/ Activist – Steve Thorp

is a consultant psychotherapist, integral coach, activist and contemporary poet who has been working and writing in the fields of human wellbeing and education for over 30 years. Inspired by his many clients, the ideas and words of James Hillman, the Dark Mountain Project and others, his writing and teaching is now about 21st Century Soul – a suitably, indeterminate force of human imagination and identity for an uncertain world. He is currently writing his new book entitled ‘Coming Back to Life’ where he explores this theme in greater depth.

Words from Steve … “The need for change is becoming urgent – but I know this can’t be achieved by activism alone – nor through a faith in some spiritual evolution. There’s a necessity for integration and indignation, for dialogue, uncertainty and courage. There’s a simple need for people to face what is lost, live good and creative lives and to be the change we want in the world. This is what these visual poems are about. It is, at once, a meditation, a lamentation and a gentle call to arms”.

Steve has published a number of well-received poetry pamphlets under the creativethorp imprint and works as an integral coach, therapist and consultant. Steve also blogs the small stuff at his Psycho-bubble site!

Life of Buddha Tour 2009 – 2010

It was with great pleasure that I set off a small U.K. tour of my three sculptured panel depicting the Life of Buddha.

following-his-heartPanel 1 entitled ‘Following His Heart’, depicts a younger Buddha embarking on his true path as his enlightenment begins. The energies of light and truth are filtering down, symbolising his momentous decision to follow his heart, leaving behind his privileged life in the palace.

buddhas-enlightenmentPanel 2 entitled ‘Buddha’s Enlightenment’, depicts the middle period of the prophet Buddha’s Life, as he reaches full enlightenment. The rich flowers positioned down the side of his face are in full bloom ,showing their abundant glory. The evidence of poverty and hardship suffered on his journey depicted by his textured face is diminished by the enlightened orbs at his brow, showing his true inner state.

buddhas-peacePanel 3 entitled ‘Buddha’s Peace’

This image shows Buddha as he reaches the latter period of his life. The rich gold flowers have turned into brown and terracotta leaves, you could call it the Autumn of his life. His work is done, wisdom and age brings full contentment bliss and peace.

The first Exhibition was launched on World Peace Day – 21st September 2009, this was linked to a small group marking the day at the Buddhist Peace pagoda in Milton Keynes, this simple but delightful ceremony was very thought provoking and was organised by Brenda Lowe.

The Second Exhibition was at Hitchin Museum Gallery in October 2009, entitled ‘The Wisdom of Peace’ This one man exhibition was very successful and the preview night was started off with poet Steve Thorp reading extracts from his ‘Life ‘Collection with many of his poems linking to the wisdom of man in regards to his relationship with earth.

Not only could the visitors visit the gallery space exhibiting 20 of my pictures, they could also move into the poetry room and read Steve’s poems enlarged on corex panels creating a wonderful room of words. This lovely evening was finished off with a candle lit peace gathering held outside in the18th Century healing garden, and a powerful reading of the global peace prayer by Vanessa Edwards and the playing of Imagine by John Lennon. WONDERFUL.
