Collagraph Prints

These Collagraph prints are part of the Kim Major-George collection of images. Most images have a print run of only 20, some only a print run of 4. Most are hand embellished with mixed media such as soft oil paint work, inks, conti crayons, iridescent metallic threads and precious foils; all these additions enhance the ethereal quality of her work. Each collagraph print is different and no attempt is made to create an exact copy. The print is signed either A/P ( artist proof) or numbered on the front, on the reverse side a slip with artist signature and the number in the series is also added, thereby assuring the purchaser of its genuine status in the Major- George collagraph collection.

Symphony of Angels -Giclees

Giclee prints have been made of’ The Symphony of Angels’ collection only (painted in mixed media) and is limited to only 50 of each image. Each print is produced on heavy duty paper, numbered and signed by the artist, ensuring authentic reproduction of the artwork, originals are retained by the artist.

What is Giclée?

Giclée (zhee-clay) is a French word which literally translates, ‘little squirt’, but in this case means “spray of ink”. It is a way of describing the technique by which an image, taken from an original piece of artwork, is reproduced using state of the art printing equipment.

Print Quality

High resolution digital images are scanned in to the computer and printed with specialised quality inks on to an acid-free substrate. This can be on smooth, textured or photographic paper or on canvas to simulate the original medium. Giclée prints have a remarkable colour saturation and light-fastness stability, retaining minute detail, subtle shades and tones.

While Giclée is a digitalised method of printing it is not an automatic process and is by no means a hands-free method. Skill and an experienced eye is required to colour match and adjust the image, both on the computer and at proofing stage, to achieve an accurate reproduction of the original artwork.

Limited Edition Prints

Limited edition prints have never been so collectable. The faithful translation of original paintings into limited editions enables an artist’s work to be enjoyed by more collectors.

Each print carries a hand written number which is essential and guarantees not only the print run but also the authenticity of the edition.

The Signature

Every print is inscribed with the unique signature of the artist. This signature authenticates each reproduction of the artist’s original painting and also ensures that the edition is to their complete satisfaction.

The Market

Some of the most prestigious museums throughout the world, e.g. the Louvre, New York’s Metropolitan and Guggenheim use giclée prints to substitute works of art that are too fragile to be exhibited to the public. Auctions of giclee prints have produced sales of $10,800 for Annie Leivobitz and $22,800 for Wolfgang Tillmans
